Nobody enjoys using public restrooms, including the restrooms at work. One in ten employees said that they would avoid using the toilet in their workplace due to concerns about hygiene, according to a survey of more than 1,400 workers. In the last six months, over half of employees claimed they were “appalled” by the condition of their workplace restroom at least once. Cleanliness of the Restroom
Scheduled cleanings of workplace restroom facilities not only enhance hygiene but will be much appreciated by employees and visitors. Clean restrooms increase happiness around the workplace because employees feel valued. A study in 2015 found that happy employees are 12 percent more productive, while unhappy employees are 10 percent less productive. Additionally, poor hygiene leads to sick employees and employees who are sick and come to work anyways are less productive. Therefore, the simple task of cleaning the restrooms can improve the productivity of a company.
Valuing Employees
According to the Healthy Hand Washing Survey in 2017, 89 percent of Americans believe the condition of a workplace restroom is an indicator of how a company values its workforce. Workplace Regulations require employees to provide suitable sanitary conveniences that must be kept in a clean and orderly condition. To enhance the cleanliness of restrooms, consider posting signs as a reminder for employees to wash their hands. Although it may seem like a no-brainer to wash your hands after using the restroom, that’s not always the case. Three-quarters of people said they were more likely to wash their hands only in the presence of another colleague. While it may not be anybody’s favorite topic to discuss, workplace restroom cleanliness should certainly not be overlooked.
